Vinyl siding insurance claim matching endorsement

How to Get Siding Claims Approved Based on Line of Sight

An adjuster tells you insurance will only pay for two elevations of siding and a roof “repair.” We’ve all had this happen to us at one time or another.

You can’t discuss the homeowner’s policy with the insurance company. So, what can you do?

First, talk with your homeowner. Ask him if his policy has a matching endorsement. If there is, great. It should be covered.

Second, try reasoning with the adjuster with the following statements:

  • Vinyl siding insurance claim matching endorsement Matching to restore a uniform appearance is required by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners Unfair Property/Casualty Claims Settlement practices model regulation MDL-902, 1997.

  • For a loss that requires repair or replacement of items or part and the required or replaced items or part do not match in quality, color, or size, the existing items or parts the insurer shall repair or replace with materials of like, kind, and quality to provide a REASONABLY UNIFORM APPEARANCE, including repair or replacement in adjoining areas.

  • When looking at the two different sides in the same line of sight, there is going to be a distinct difference in the color, pattern, and/or profile. True, the sides or shingles not covered in the claim did not sustain storm damages but one could say that the storm caused an un-uniform appearance to the property, therefore resulting in a loss of value to the property. To put the homeowner in pre-storm condition all sides/slopes should be included in the claim.
