Top 5 Ways to Improve Your Roofing Business This Winter

Top 5 Ways to Improve Your Roofing Business This Winter

  1. REVIEW CODES IN YOUR AREA
Call your local building department to find out if any codes have been updated in the last year. Download new paperwork to your computer and replace/update old documentation. If your city does not provide new paperwork, ask if they will send you an email stating what items are required by code for all the trades you perform. This will make your supplementing in the springtime much easier as adjusters typically want this type of documentation.

  2. REVIEW YOUR PROCESSES & PAPERWORK
The winter is a great time to analyze your data from the past year and determine how you and your team can improve. Processes can make or break a roofing business. Do all your sales reps consistently fill out the same paperwork? Are they taking the necessary photos? Now is the perfect time to implement procedures to make sure you have all the information needed to understand if a job can be produced and supplemented.

  3. LEARN ABOUT SUPPLEMENTING SOFTWARE UPDATES
    XACTIMATE
Comb through all the new line items Xactimate has added to their database in the last year and update your macros and your vocabulary accordingly. Some of these newer line items are more reflective of the true cost of the labor and materials. Knowing these line items and how to speak the language will put you one step ahead on your next adjuster meeting.

    SYMBILITY
As more and more carriers make the switch from Xactimate to Symbility, this winter may be the prime time for you to learn more about Symbility. You don’t necessarily need to learn how to write estimates using the software but becoming familiar with how the software works and what the line items to include can put you ahead of the game.

  4. RECRUIT NEW TEAM MEMBERS
Sales Rep turnover can be high in this industry. And maybe you’re realizing you could benefit from an Office Manager to help with paperwork or a Production Manager in the field. The slow season is the perfect time to add to your team because you have plenty of time to find and train them!
